I LOVE SAMPLES, I LOVE THEM, THEY ARE MY FAVOURITE, I SWEAR I LOVE SAMPLES MORE THAN THE FULL SIZE PRODUCT, THEY’RE BEAUTY PRODUCTS BUT JUST TINY WEENY VERSIONS? THEY’RE SO CUTE? IT MEANS YOU CAN TRY NEW STUFF ALL THE TIME? AND IF YOU HATE IT IT DOESN’T MATTER? THROW YO HANDS IN THE AAAAIR, IF YOU A TRUE SAMPLER! GIVE ME ALL YOUR SAMPLES, ALL OF THEM, LET ME BATHE IN A BATH OF SACHET SAMPLES.EVERYTHING IS BETTER WHEN IT’S SMALLER, EXCEPT FOR FOOD, AND OTHER THINGS.
Also, obviously, they’re really convenient for travel.
So when I went away over Halloween I decided to take samples away with me instead of products to a) use them all up and b) try loads of cool new stuff out, and review it, for you guys. I am truly a Samaritan. Also mainly to get rid of the 1,000,000 samples I have under my sink (to make room for new samples).
V05 Nourish me Truly Shampoo and Conditioner
This smelt really nice! Like so nice! LIKE SWEETS!
Tresemmé Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner
This was fine innit. Used to use this all the time at home. You try one Tresemmé shampoo you’ve tried them all.
Tresemmé Expert Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo and Conditioner
^ HAHA, PSYCH. This was soooo good! So unlike all other Tresemmé products! This is basically the ‘reverse your routine’ shamp/cond every celeb was plugging a few months ago, and I just assumed you’d get the same effect if you, like, used your regular conditioner before your regular shampoo? But no, these ones noticeably made my greasy hair feel way fresher the next day, smelt good, noticeable volume, and the whole ‘reverse your routine’ thing didn’t feel weird, it made sense. Great. Good stuff. Will buy.
Kiehl’s Oil Eliminating toner (for men)
This does what it says on the tin, but because it’s aimed at ~men~ (because men need their own MANLY dark green packaged skincare with a very manly AEROPLANE on it as incentive to do more than just splash cold water on their face three times a week), it has a very musky smell. Not a fan of this in my skincare. I love Kiehl’s and think it’s such an effective brand when it comes to doing what it says, but I wouldn’t purchase this myself simply because they have a ‘female’ version that does the same but smells nicer? Anyway, would recommend to your oily ass boyfriend.
Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective White Purifying Foaming Cleanser
I used this on my Clarisonic and it’s a great very ‘standard’ gentle, all skin types foaming cleanser. I preferred my Lancome Gel Eclat which is identical in texture, colour, benefits, how it feels on the skin, but again, smells nicer. I bought my mum this as a birthday gift as her skin is the most average, ‘normal’ skin ever and she loves it though.
Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective White Exfoliator
THIS, however, was great. I love the toner from this range, and the exfoliator is just as good. It was very fine grains so it didn’t feel like St Ives lmao, but left my face SQUEAKY CLEAN. May purchase when I run out of my current Peter Thomas Roth exfoliator.
The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal mask (new launch)
EWWWW I HATED THIS WITH MY LIFE, BURN IT, KILL IT WITH FIRE. I had so much hope for this product! I love the new upscale Body Shop packaging and my face needed a clean out so I thought this would be perfect. And it might have been! If it wasn’t for the fact it literally felt like it had bits of seaweed in it? Or maybe it was some herbs? Like it legit felt like I was seasoning my face like a chicken breast? Having actual bits of leaf stuck to my face was not nice, and it made my face tingle, in ‘the bad way’.
Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturiser
I actually asked for this as a Christmas gift this from using the tester, it’s SO good. So happy I did this experiment just so I discovered this gem. I usually use gel moisturisers regardless because I have sort of weird oily but dry skin? I use Kiehl’s Oil Free Gel moisturiser (the blue packaging) but I felt it was ~too~ gel like almost, it wasn’t giving me all the hydration I wanted. This however is the perfect mix between a gel and a cream, and although it’s marketed as a ‘moisture surge’, it won’t make oily skin types greasy because of it’s mainly gel texture. It would also be great for dry, dehydrated skin because of it’s moisturising properties. Basically if you’re combo, get it. Also, I would recommend getting it soon, because its £34 for a standard tub, and then £40 for this set from Debenhams or the Clinique website, and it comes with loads of other bits too including a full sized Chubby Stick (PLUS Debenhams always have 10% off makeup/skincare offers on, so you basically get the other stuff for free). If you’re unsure def just go up and ask for a sample (most people seem to forget you can do this legit at any beauty counter?).
