So I recently did a poll on Twitter (@perrrrin: get that self-promo, girl) and it seemed people wanted me to blog about my skincare routine, so that’s what I’m doing, right now, for you. Up until a year ago I didn’t really have a skincare routine, I just used the skin cream my doctor prescribed me years before for having some extremely mild teenage acne (it’s called Duac and I swear God himself invented it), I washed my face with some Simple face wash and a flannel and off I went: naive, innocent, guileless.
Anyway, I recently realised how shit that was for my skin, and I’d get super oily and gross during the day due to it. Nowadays, I’m the sort of person that could be wasted, carrot sick down my bandage dress, one-shoe-on style, and still cleanse, tone and moisturise at 4am. I am a sweet baby skincare angel. I think I’ve got my routine on lockdown now, as a looooot of people compliment my foundation, but in actual fact my foundation is so thin they usually just mean my skin. I’d recommend my routine for anyone with oily/cloggy/pore-y skin. Ya get me.
SO. HERE GOES.
Okay, this is where my routine falls down and I should probably step it up. I’ve heard all sorts of makeup wipe horror stories but they’re so convenient and I hate oily eye makeup remover. Also, I thoroughly wash my face after using them, so they can’t be that bad…. right? ……….right? Anyway if you can recommend a good makeup remover that doesn’t make me feel like I’m taking my mascara off with literal McDonald’s chip fat, go ahead.
My Clarisonic is my LIFE. At first I hated it because it made me so spotty, but then I worked out my skin was purging all the grossness out, and this stage only lasted a week and a bit. I use it twice a day, but sometimes if my skin’s a bit dry I’ll use it only at night. With a Clarisonic, you have to use a creamy wash, so I use either the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free cleanser, or the Lancome Gel Éclat. Both are pearly in texture and appearance and leave my face squeaky clean (literally) and oil free. Yeah babe love it.
Sometimes the old classics are the best, and the St Ive’s scrub def proves that. It’s such a ‘Nanna’s bathroom cupboard’ item, but it’s the best deep face scrub I’ve ever used. However, only use it twice a week or your skin will overcompensate for the dryness and get even oilier. Also, I used to use the Kiehl’s Deep Pore Rare Earth Cleanser every day pre-Clarisonic and I thought it was the ballz. Now I just use it when I need to be a bit more ~scrubbed~ (aka, after heavy heavy makeup) but yeah it’s great for oily babez.
LOVE A MASK, ME. The Kiehl’s mask is GOAT, I prob do that shit 2-3 times a week. I’ve heard great things about the Aztec Secret mask (just read the Amazon reviews) and it’s only like £8 for a HUGE tub, but you have to mix it with water yourself, and quite frankly dear reader, I’m very very lazy. Maybe I’ll use it more when my Kiehl’s one runs out (which looks to be soon, sob), but until then, it gets an honourable mention.
With all the drying stuff I put on my sebum soaked skin, it’s important to moisturise too. The Kiehl’s moisturiser is a gel, so it’s not heavy at all, and doesn’t make me feel greasy.I would recommend it a billion percent, I’ve hated every other moisturiser I’ve ever tried and used to skip it altogether. I use the Lancome serum on my gross forehead wrinkles sometimes when I can be bothered and may one day buy the full size bottle. Actually, if anyone has any wrinkle reducing/preventative skin care recommendations for young skin, hmu.
I could be a Pixi Glow Tonic sales girl. I even reviewed it here. BBHMM: Pixi owe me some commission. I recommend it to everyone and am on my third huge bottle of the stuff. It’s a liquid exfoliator as well as a toner, and it’s well worth the hype. I also use the Glow Mist under my makeup pre-primer to give myself a dewy base, and then the makeup fixing spray post-makeup, and I SWEAR to you, it’s the only one that works. Forget Urban Decay’s All Nighter, this is the one you need.
So yeah, leave me your makeup wipe horror stories in the comments if you have any! CHEERS.
